Ct colonoscopy tomorrow

Hi good morning.

after my colonoscopy, I was told I needed a CT colonoscopy as they couldn't see my entire bowel.

well tomorrow is the day. I'm still very nervous at what they may find.

im not sure when you get the results. I do hope it is not a long wait .

anyone know how you get results.? Will I have appointment with the guy who did the original colonoscopy or will they be sent to my GP.

Thanks for any help.

take care .

  • Hi Panicking.

Every hospital (and every consultant) has their own personal policy.  What you can rely on is that whatever you're told by one doctor, nurse or technician, you will actually receive the results in a completely different way! So you might be told you'll get a phone call, and you actually receive a letter with an appointment date; or you're told you'll get a letter and you get a phone call. Don't panic if this happens to you.

In practice, a lot of consultants prefer to call you in for your results, whether they're good or bad news.  I think this is so they can answer any questions you've got, and - if you think about it - you might not have cancer but you've probably still got the symptoms that set you on this path. With a face to face meeting, the consultant can sort out whatever further treatment you might need for whatever condition is causing your problems.

Finally, I don't know if it happen everywhere, but in my part of the world GPs can access hospital results via their computer system.  For my previous MRI and CT scans, I was abe to get the results by asking my GP.  I think they took about 2 week to turnaround and become available.  In each case, this was earlier than I heard from the actual hospital itself.

  • Thank you for your reply.

i will ask about the results after the scan.

i do wonder with COVID if I will get a phone call rather than a face to face conversation.

Hopefully I will know what is causing my symptoms soon.

Thank you again for your help.

    Take care.

  • Hi

In my experience if they can't do the whole bowel they can't get a result.

I once had to have a bowel ct as they couldn't get right to the end of the bowel.

On that time all came back ok.

Good luck, gp's can often put you out of your misery sooner than consultants who never seem to rush and think nothing of having you waiting 2 or 3 weeks of hell.

  • Thank you for your reply.

will leave it a while then contact my GP

Like all of us I need to know what I'm facing, it's the not knowing.

still after ct scan I will be nearer to finding out.

Thank you for taking the time to answer.

    very kind.

    Take care x

  • [@Panicking]‍  Just wanted to say hi - I'm in a similar boat currently waiting for CT colonoscopy results. I never had a normal colonoscopy though, the consultant decided it's better for some reason to do the virtual one and only go traditional route if necessary!

She said the results can take up to 14 days but if anything worrying is discovered the process is much quicker, she mentioned 24h.

So I'm currently having mini heart attacks every time my phone makes a sound! It's a nightmare but we will have answe

Good luck, hope everything turns out well for you and the scan itself was bearble. Sending positive thoughts :)

  • Hi thank you so much for your reply.

went for the scan this morning only to be told I had been given the wrong information about preparation beforehand !

my paperwork was lost in the post so a very kind lady dropped off the drink I had to have and a sheet with information about taking the preparation and no food the day before.

when I showed the radiographers today she said it was the wrong information but as I had not eaten yesterday they would still do it and hope they could see.

so as you can imagine I am not sure if it was successful or not.

im getting really stressed now, all this waiting and still unsure if the scan will give any answers.

i do hope you get your results quickly and that everything is fine.

    take care.

    xx

  • Oh god what a nightmare! Hopefully they will be able to see things clearly..

Thank you, you too! Best of luck and keep us posted on the outcome! X

  • Good morning,

Ask the consultant when the results will be available. Normally they can give a range of when they expect the results. I got a phone call about a week later with the results followed by a letter. After that we had a video conference where he explained the results in more detail to my husband and I. Suffice to say I had not caught everything he said in the phone call. So really recommend asking for a follow up scheduled call if the phone call comes when you are not ready.
I had a lower Sigmid colectomy last week so waiting for the results from that . Have specifically asked for it to be done at a scheduled time so I have someone with me.
Best of luck with your procedure.

  • A total nightmare, my nerves are in tatters.

Im trying to be positive, let's hope they can see enough.

i really need to know what I'm dealing with.

will keep you up to date.

    thanks for the good wishes.

Take care of yourself. Sending positive thoughts to you.

  • I asked the radiographer, she said either a letter or a phone call. Could not give me a time frame. So in the dark really. I do hope that this will be sorted out soon. My nerves can't take much more.

Hope your results are all fine, sending you my best wishes and positive thoughts.

take care, I will be thinking about you.
