  • Hello samdougie,

I am sorry to hear your mum in law is struggling with a sore mouth following chemotherapy. It might be worth talking to her medical team to see whether there is anything they can suggest to help her feel less sore. I hope you will hear from others here who have also experienced similar side effects after chemotherapy and that they will share their best tips with you.

I thought I would also share the information on our website on 'Your Mouth and cancer drugs' which you can find here. It contains tips for example on eating when you have a sore mouth.

I hope this helps a little! Our nurses are also around if you want to talk to them about this. You can ring them on this free number 0808 800 4040 Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,

  • I’ve been using aloe Vera drinking gel to gargle/rinse the mouth with and it’s been very successful. More so than the difflam mouth wash. You keep the gel in the fridge so it’s nice and cool which is an added bonus. There a couple of scientific papers which mention aloe Vera for this. As always though, do check with your oncologist first before using it. I am not a doctor...
