Let's beat cancer sooner

Cervical Cancer possibility

22 Dec 2017 15:51

i just wanted to introduce myself. I’m a 38 year old woman with twins age 3.5. I have experience spotting for the last few months and have felt my cervix which feels bumpy. I have today been urgently referred for a colposcopy. The dr said she saw an inflamed area of my cervix. My last Pap smear was almost 3 years ago which came back as normal. They used to be annually due to slight abnormal cells many years ago and a diagnosis of HPV. I did consider having ‘Private’ funded annual smears when they moved them to 3 years apart, I kinda wish I did to be honest.

My anxiety is through the roof and gonna do my best to keep the cheer for Christmas and my kids. My biggest fear is leaving the kids without a mum. It’s going to be a long old Christmas.

Love to all on the forum .

Hello Poppy; I bet that was a real come-down in the run-up to Christmas.  Waiting for tests and results is a very anxious time.  In the meantime your only diagnostic tool is your imagination and that of course is totally unreliable.  I know it is easy for me to say this but place your twins' Christmas at the top of your list - my apologies if this sounds kind of obvious but I bet it requires a bit of discipline at the moment.  Make use of friends and families to share your fears' if you keep them to yourself they just magnify.

I recently had this and at colposcopy was found to have a simple ectropion. I had a biopsy for reassurance which showed endometriosis - such a shock but better than the alternative.

Really unlikely to be anything sinister with a normal smear 3 years ago.

Hope this is reassuring, I can relate to your worry.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.  You are so right saying the imagination is the only diagnostic tool at the moment - and as you say, totally unreliable. The twins Christmas is the very top of my list. Like you say, it may sound obvious but it’s good to hear it from someone else to. Thank you for your advice. Hoping you have a peaceful Christmas. Love from Poppy.

thanks so so much for your reply. I hadn’t heard of ectropion ... . Thank you so much for your reply, I really appreciate it. At least it now ‘may’ be this.

It is reassuring.

Sorry to hear about your endometriosis, like you said, it could have been a lot worse.

wishing you a peaceful Christmas.

Hi Poppy,

Cervical cancer is usually slow growing from what i have read. Go get the tests and try to relax. If it is anything you can get it treated, if it isn't then you can relax.  I had stage 2A cervical cancer and it had been about 15 years since I'd had a pap smear. Everyone's case is different but I wouldn't let my imagination run wild if I were you.

Peace to  you and your family,

Laura xx
