Cancer of the parotid gland

My father is coming 90 years old and has been diagnosed with parotid gland cancer. At the moment he is eating well no weight loss and no particular adverse symptoms. He has seen the consultant who has told him it is high risk surgery and told him the possible side effects he has his preassessment tomorrow but he is not sure if he wants the surgery if he is passed fit for it .If he does not have the surgery what can we expect as the cancer progresses.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Dpt although I'm sorry to read of your father's diagnosis.

I can see that your father had his pre-assessment yesterday. I hope it went well and you were able to get your questions answered if you went with him but if not you're more than welcome to discuss this with our cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5pm.

We also have some information about this cancer on our website just here.

I hope this helps and I wish you both well.

    Kind regards,
