Cancer in the gullet

I have had this cancer about 3 months and Ian half through my 9 week chemo programme, I would to chat to people who are  going through the same and how they are coping.

  • Hi, noticed no one has yet replied to you so thought I would!!

Not really got much to say regarding any help I can provide other than I hope you are coping alright and the treatment is proving to be a success!!

think constant positivity, keep yourself as active as possible and take each day as it comes!!!

i wish you well and hope to hear good news soon once your chemo programme has finished.

  • Hi Mick,

Sorry, I didn't see your post yesterday - it had been pushed down to page 3 due to the high volume of messages.

Which chemo regime are you on? I was on EOX which was hard going at the time, but worth it as my body responded well to it. Click on my user name in the box to the left of this message if you'd like to read the full story.

Advice? Don't be surprised if you get physically exhausted in the days after your chemo. The side-effects are cumulative, so if you feel like sleeping for 24 hours afterwards don't try to fight it. I got into a routine of allowing myself 48 hours after chemo of lazing around before forcing myself to take the dog for a walk to try to keep my fitness levels up.

Other advice? Avoid anyone with a cold - especially kids who all seem to act as virus reservoirs - your immune system will be weakened for the whole time you're on chemo.

Finally, however lousy you feel, don't give up on the treatment unless your oncologist advises you to.

    Good luck!
    Dave
