My father (61) was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma in right lateral border of the tongue . He then went through surgery and adjuvant radiation therapy. There was no metastasis . Cancer didn't spread to lymp nodes either. In two different biopsy reports one focally detected lymphovascular invasion and other report didn't see anything . No perineural invasion on either report. Near about two months post radiation we noticed two lump (both painless) on both side of the cheek (diametrically opposite position to each other if you draw a straight line). It fits one criteria of recurring symptoms . No other symptoms are present at this moment. Could it be natural lump because he doesn't have teeth on both sides where are lumps are present so it found space to grow? Or could it be worst case scenario ? Can cancer come back just two months post treatment ? Our appointment with doctor is still two weeks away . I'm worried.
welcome to the forum and sorry to hear about your dad
i am now 3.5 years post treatment for a tongue based cancer and doing well ... having had cancer I still have to remind myself that I’m still human and any ordinary human get lumps and bumps in the body .... it’s still scary though
with regards to you dad I would contact your medical team and discuss they will then give you advice as to coming in early
let us know how you get on
Vatch thank you for taking out time and for your response. Sorry to hear that you went through this. Yes I will try to make the appointment fixed as soon as possible . My father still complains about difficulty when swallowing even after more than two months post radiation. The difficulty certainly decreased over time but its still there to some extent . How long did it take for you to get things normal for you ? Again thank you very much for your response.
im 3.5 years post treatment and still can’t swallow a mouth full of chips
In short, for me, things won’t be the same ... but you adapt
some of what I liked before I know can’t do, so you find changes
Shout if you have any questions
Vatch , thank you for your response. I understand this is life altering experience. I have no more question right now but I will bug you again on this thread if I get any later. You take care.
