CA 125 Test

7 Dec 2017 02:17

Is it normal for the result of the CA 125 test fluctuate(i.e. result of 11 to 14 in six months).  What causes this fluctuation in someone who has not had/does not have ovarian cancer? I can't find any answers online about this.. I know under 30 is considered normal but wondered if the protein measured would change month to month, etc..

Thank you,

Laura

Hello LauraP and thanks for posting,

You asked about the CA125 test.

Yes, most blood tests will naturally fluctuate a little bit and still remain within normal limits. There will always be subtle differences as our body is always actively processing chemicals.

The CA125 test will react to any inflammation or transient infection in the pelvic area, so can change levels. Doctors are generally only concerned if someone has symptoms as well, or that the level is beyond normal limits, or is increasing markedly.

I hope that this has been helpful.

Best wishes

Vanda
