Bowel cancer screening unclear result

14 Apr 2014 11:22

I've just hit 60 and I did a postal bowel cancer screening test last week; this means taking six separate fecal samples on three different days. I received a letter back with a repeat test. The letter said I had an "unclear" result and a slight suggestion of blood.  Doing some web searching, I discovered an unclear result is when blood is found in up to 4 (out of 6) samples, and the standard protocol is to repeat the test.

Clearly, there's a world of difference between a slight trace of blood in one sample, and heavy blood contamination in 4 samples.  Does anyone know whether I can find out more information, or do I have to wait for the result of the repeat screening?  I'm pretty certain that the repeat screening will also be unclear or abnormal, because I noticed some bleeding from piles after I'd done the repeat samples.

I've done the repeat test and it's now in the post.
