Anyone else experienced anything like this?

Hello everybody!

I had a open cholecystectomy 6 years ago after originally going in laparoscopically but finding my gallbladder had gone gangrenous. Everything has been fine since, apart from the usual post removal symptoms. I’ve had a baby since and still everything was fine. That was until 6 months ago, I had been really unwell with a high temp, lethargic etc then I had an attack of pain exactly the same as before I had my gallbladder removed in the same place. It settled and I just hoped it was because I’d been unwell.

Fast forward and I had a second attack in Feb, my Gp referred me for an ultrasound and they’ve found a 4cm lump in or adjacent my gallbladder fossa. I was then referred on a urgent 2 week referral for a CT scan, I’ve had that and my results are in todays MDT meeting.

The wait has been a killer. We have a strong family history of pancreatic cancer with two generations of death from it.  My question is if anyone else has had experience of anything like this?

Thank you for reading.

  • Hello Lauren05 and a big welcome to Cancer Chat,

So sorry to hear you've had all these issues recently and suffered a second attack in February. I hope that by now your MDT meeting will have taken place and that it won't be long until you get your results.

Waiting for results is certainly a killer as you say - there is indeed no better way to describe it and I am sure many of our members will agree that this wait can seem interminable and rather unbearable. There are helpful tips though on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news and one of them is of course to try and stay away from Google if you can and to keep busy and distracted doing things you enjoy which I know is easier said than done!

I completely understand that your strong family history of pancreatic cancer is making you fear the worst and I am so sorry to hear that two generations in your family have been affected by it. Try if you can to put this at the back of your mind for now as your current issues may be totally unrelated to what sadly happened to your family.

Other members of our forum may have experienced something similar and I hope that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

We're keeping everything crossed for you that you get your results soon and that it all turns out to be nothing concerning. Keep us updated if you get a chance on what you find out.

    Best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
