Hello everyone,

I heard this quote while watching t.v. last night. It was given as advice to someone who was trying to make plans for their future.  It makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever and when we heard it my wife and I looked at eachother with a perlexed look on our faces.  You never know though, it might make sense to someone but if it doesn't just do what I did and forget you ever heard it.

Put your right shoe on first, but first put your left foot in the bath!

If nothing else, just smile at the image of someone trying to put on a shoe while they have one foot in the bath.

Garth I like that one. Dolly is a really talented musician/songwriter. I saw a program on her and didn't realize how many instruments she plays.I realized I for one had underestimated her talents.

The times this has happened to me and I expect it has also happened to a lot of you too. The only thing is, some time ago I bought something to replace something I'd lost and the the wife told me I don't know why you bought this, as you already have two of them here in the cupboard. I got out of it by blaming her for hiding them away in the first place. Not that it got me anything except a black eye!!!!!!!!!!!

This site give us the ideal place to give vent to our feelings, for it's far better to rant or rage on here than it is to do it in front of our families. People on here do not judge us as they know all to well the mixture of emotions, pain, anger, disbelief, rage and even the odd moment of laughter we all feel when affected by cancer, either directly or indirectly.

I can relate to this one, don't get me wrong folks, I am most certainly not the sort of guy who wears women's underwear, honest. But this reminded me of when a few weeks ago, I broke a bone in my groin which was not only very painful, but it also made me waddle like a drunken duck for several weeks. The stick I took from friends and family alike will be hard to live down.

I just read through all 15 pages of this post, it took me a while to do so, but it really made me smile

I'm so happy that Sofia started this. I've been battling cancer for over a year now and it's nice to read positive, uplifting and even funny quotes (Some of the quotes Woodworm posted had me chuckling to myself!)

Although I am not on here as often as I would like to be, i always feel a lot better and more optimistic each time i do visit.

This post really cheered me up, i loved the quotes that were posted

Good to see your name crop up again this morning and pleased you got a chuckle out of some of the quotes.  I do agree with you, just reading peoples postings on here always make me feel good, even though some stories do make me feel very sad. I think the reason is it's so nice to read the replies where people although suffering themselves, still go out of their way to help others. After hearing and reading so much bad news in the press ect, it's good to find so many people doing their best to help each other, it does redress the balance.

This quotation is by Ralph Waldo Emerson and is so true as you will see if you read to the bottom of this page.

I read a lovely true story some years ago about this guy who many years ago was hiking through the Pyrenees area. It was coming on to dusk and he realized he had lost his way. Fortunately he came across an elderly shepherd and asked him for directions. He told him, he was way off his track and invited him to spend the night at his place. In  the morning as he was getting ready to leave he saw the shepherd counting out lots of acorns and putting them in his large pockets. Curious, he asked the shepherd the reason and he was told that the shepherd had set himself a task of planting a hundred acorns every day. He was shown the way to go but still kept in contact with him over the years. He was saddened to hear eventually the old man had died and that a forestry company wanted to cut down some of these oak trees trees the old man was responsible for growing. He was so incensed he went out there but luckily the trees were not big enough to harvest. But in honour of the old shepherds work, he raise so much fuss he was able to stop and future cutting of the trees. Apparently there are thousands of these trees due just to one mans efforts. It just goes to show what we can do if we are determined enough. Hope you enjoyed reading this true story as much as I did.

Hello everyone,

The other day I found a whole load of quotations and they were all by Anonymous. This is one I really like and is so applicable to this site.

"When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile".

When I read this quotation it made me stop and think. There have been times in my life when I have felt really down, like the times when over the years I lost my mother, grandmother and grandfather. But thinking back, I can remember all three of them telling me as they approached the end of their lives, bad things don't forever last but good things do. I didn't understand back then, but I guess what they meant was, the good memories I have of them are something time can never take away. I feel lucky and privileged to have had them in my life for they have helped shape the person I am today and have influenced the way I look at life.

I don't like to think of myself as old on the outside but I suppose if I were looking at myself through my grandchildren's eyes, I would probably readily agree with this quotation. My youngest grandson is always taking the micky out of me because of my age and I suppose if I'm honest with you, I probably encourage him.

That expalins why I am sure I am not old enough to be a gran yet!!

I do have a lot to look forward to, I got excited for the first time the other day when my daughter told me it is a girl. I dare not get too excited until Charlotte is safely delivered!!! Thats the midwife side of me. Goes back to too much knowledge sometimes.!!!! he ho. !!!!!

Grandmotherly advice!!   So I read your daughter is expecting a girl (my daughter has second son on the way). Best advice I was given (by a friend) was to wait until asked and then apply 'motherly instincts'.  Worked for us but modern ideas sometimes work better!!  Best advice of all enjoy it  and the role of granny (my grandson has a special name for me which has stuck so far - not sure how long for once he is in full time school and he realises its different!!) means you can get away with a bit of spoiling (of daughter as well as grandchild!!).  I had a magnet from my daughter for a present which reads 'what happens at Grannys, stays at Grannys' (currently this seems to apply to the snakes and ladders and ginger biscuits).  Suspect the hot weather is not going down so well with them at present but the time soon goes.

Thank you for the first bit of grandmotherly advice. You reaffirmed what I was thinking. Wait to be asked!!!. My role so far is to get myself on a train to London as soon as she thinks she is in labour and fill the freezer with lots of lovely meals.Well I should be able to manage that. I love the story of the magnet from your daughter. Hope I get one. I am looking forward to seeing my 2 children at the end of the month. They are coming up to see me without their other halfs so we can have time together(doesn't often happen). My son is absolutely over the moon with the idea of being an uncle. They are a very close brother and sister. I should imagine he will be no.1 babysitter as they live quite close.

Hi Annabel

Forward planning always a help (and practical stuff like you cooking - GREAT).  As my daughter already has  a little boy she has a number of people on stand by to babysit (bearing in  mind my home situation cannot be 100% sure of being able to go 'on the hop' so to speak.  Her hubby has just started new job so does not qualify for paternity leave but will take a weeks holiday when the new baby arrives. I will then have a week off and my son's girlfriend will do that as well so all in all think we have school runs/company covered. Have to say first time round she was very tired (12 hr labour) and was very grateful for all the help even though she had good routine pretty quick.

Hubby has not been too bad this past week though the heat does not help with our sleep!!  I am up very early - around 5 so at least any housework is done in the coolest part of the day (washing already on the line and breakfast done and dusted so having a sit down prior to going into work.

Take care anmd can imagine you are really looking forward to that valuable family time at the month's end - not long to wait now.  We are looking forward to beginning of August when one of hubby's old workmates is getting married and we are going to the evening reception - always good to have things to look forward to!

Chat soon(maybe set up new thread in General discussions instead of hijacking Amazing quotes!!! Think Brian always has his head in books as I am sure he is never short of an idea or two - Is he really MR ANONYMOUS Jules xx

There ia a site on the Internet where I get all these quotes from. I found a whole section devoted to quotes by Anonymous. Here is another one from the list

Unfortunately the is no chance of that happening for me as each year both my wife and son seem to relish reminding me I am another year older. Each year my son always manages to find a birthday card that has something to do with how old I am. Dont know where he gets this from?  And now I even have the grandchildren joining in too.

A smile costs absolutely nothing but I often smile at people in the street these days and most people respond likewise. I do however get the odd look every now and then. But in our modern life, so many people although surrounded by people when out in the street, often lead quite lonely lives at home and a smile can often brighten their day.

As always, there are different ways of looking at and interpreting these quotes. I often try to think of ways these quotes relate to this site and the people on it. This is my own interpretation of todays quote. I think by passing on a few kind words to one another on here, our own inner flames do not dim but instead may even get brighter.

Thanks Brian. these quotes always brighten my day and make me smile.  Have just got in from seeing Mum (in a non-cummunicative mood today so bored her to tears with my family updates and then joined in with quiz time for a bit).  Then met hubby at the supermarket and marvelled at a 94yr old in front of us at the queue (very happy to let us know how old she was and kept apologising for how slow she was). Bless her she was so well organised and refused packing help - quite a character. When we got back to the car park two Dial-a-Ride buses were waiting and there she was chivvying the others along.  Hubby had to reverse out of the disabled area as they were blocking the forward exit!!

Naughty trolley had some choc ices drop out of the freezer - managed to get home before they melted so may be a treat for later.  Have a good weekend - stay cooljules xx.
