Hi Everyone,

As so many people on here have recently said  how they are struggling trying to cope with grief, I came across this quote and thought I would like to share it with them. It was written by Nicholas Sparks.

"Its possible to go on, no matter how impossible it seems, and that in time, the grief--------lessens. It may not go away completely, but after a time it is not so overwhelming".

Grief is one of those strong emotions that cannot be seen or touched but only felt. That is why others don't always know we are feeling so low and why people don't often get the support they so badly need. That is why this site is so needed for it offers a place for people to come and pour out their grief and know that others will not only understand but will offer help and support.

I wish you all a good and pain free weekend Brian

Re: amazing quotes

Hi all,

Great quote as alwways Brian and in a similar vein I found this today:

"You give yourself permission to grieve by recognizing the need for grieving.  Grieving is the natural way of working through the loss of a love.   Grieving is not a weakness, nor absence of faith.  Grieving is as natural as crying when you are hurt, sleeping when you are tired or sneezing when your nose itches.  It is nature's way of healing a broken heart."  Doug Manning

We have to grieve for the people we have lost -- it is essential!  It does take a long time for the grieving process to end and it is also an unfortunate truth that many of us don't truly understand how much someone has meant to us until they are taken away.

Best to everyone!

Hi folks,

As it is Mothers Day tomorow, I have searched out some quotations which I would like to share with you all. As our mothers played such a big part in our lives I am posting two quotes today and hope to do the same tomorow. The first one today is by Ranjeesh.

"The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother never. A mother is something absolutely new".

Not much I can add to that.

The second quote is I feel very touching. It's by our friend old Anonymous again, which I feel is a great pity.

"A mother understands what a child does not say".

This could be interpreted in so many many, ways. A mother pick up on so many things, that are not mentioned by her child. It maybe bullying at school or that they are worried about something like exams. She also instinctively knows, even if her child does not tell her outright, that they love her. It's almost like a mother has telepathic abilities, and often they even know what we are thinking. We often don't tell our mothers how much we love them enough, and when their gone, we realize it and it makes us feel so bad. I did tell my mother I loved, but not as often as I should have done. For she did so much for me in my life, and is something I was never able to fully repay.

So to all mothers everywhere, I say a collective big Thank you.

Please take care everyone, Brian

Good morning everyone,

And especially mothers everywhere, for you are all very special people.

As today is Mothers Days, I have another two quotations for today for mothers, past and present. The first one is by Carrie Lates and reads:-

"My mum is litteraly part of me. You cant say that about many people except realtives and organ donars".

I like the touch of humour in this one,

The second quotation reminds me so much of my own mother for she would have acted just like this. This quotation is by Tenneva Jordan.

"A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie".

I know for a fact that when I was young, the war was in full swing and my mother often went without things because she had me to look after for food was hard to come by. She never ever told me this herself, it came from other family members over the years.

All mums make sacrifices for their children so for all mums everywhere,

Have a great day today,

and thank you for what you are and what you do,

Hi everyone,

Thank you for continuing the "amazing quotes!"

Well, despite Brian already have cited me, I'm no one for being cited but, this time I would like to share something that I wrote on another place and people liked:

" I learned that statistics lose many arguments for human individuality"

And I guess this chat is a good place to prove it!

11 Mar 2013 09:15 in response to Wishingwell

Good morning all,

Its snowing a little as I am typing this.

Wishingwell, I am pleased those quotes helped you. In a funny sort of way, they helped me too, as Mothers Day is one of the days when I do really miss my mother. For in the past, it enabled me to thank her for all the little things she did for me that meant so much to me, and which also showed me how much she loved me and know I cant do that any more. These days all I can do is to visit her grave put some flowers on her grave and this year my wife had to do this for me as I couldn't walk to the graveside due to my injury. So posting those qoutations were my way of saying thank you to her.

Today's quotation is by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

"No medicine can cure what happiness cannot".

I have learned over the years, happiness is something that can not be bought at any price. We have to work hard to obtain it and often it doesn't come easily. But when we do achieve it, it brings with it a peace of mind which make's it all worthwhile. Since retiring and getting my good result re my prostate cancer, I can honestly say I am the happiest I have ever been. I wish others the happiness I feel.

Hope you all have a good day, Brian

Hi Folks,

Have woke up to fine we have had a lot of snow fall overnight and it's still snowing at the moment. Not sure how deep it is as the wind has blown it into drifts. One end of our hedge has 4" but the other only has 2". At least I don't have to go to Tesco's shopping today.

I have looked for a qoute about snow and came up with this one which made me laugh. Hope you all like it. It by our friend Anonymous once more.

" Snowmen fall from heaven-------Unassembled"

Whoever wrote this must have a good sense of humour. For those of you who have also had snow, please take care if you have to go out.

Love that quote Brian, it certainly made me laugh.

I received an email from a friend of mine who lives in Western Australia yesterday and he included a photo of him, his girlfriend and some friends camping in some sand dunes on a beautiful sunny day with the calm sea in the background taken just the day before.  I replied with a picture of my car that could just be seen through the snow blizzard with icicles hanging from the bottom of the sill.

Will Summer ever arrive?

Hi everyone,

Thought I would like to inject a bit of humour into this thread. I came across this quotation the other day and thought how true it is and it made me smile. I hope it does the same to you. It yet another one by someone called Anonymous and reads:-

"Don't knock the weather. If it didn't change once in a while, nine out of ten people couldn't start a conversation".

We in England do seem to have this habit when talking to strangers of always opening the conversation by talking about the weather. I am just of this as guilty as most people.

Thank goodness for the spell checker on here. I just wrote snile instead of smile, cahange instead on change and Brain instead of Brian.!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fancy not spelling my own name right. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!Think I am showing the first signs of senility and need to go and have a lie down in a darkened room.

Take care my friends and have a great weekend, Brian

Oh, and exchange letters in words  is more a thing to type faster on the computer than senility, believe me

Well, Brian/Brain you certainly use the latter to find all these amazing quotes (loved yours too  Sofia and like Brian hope the treatment is going well). Loved the weather reference. It is almost inevitable to crop up in any conversation whether it be with strangers or not. I have just commented on it with him indoors as I was getting wet feeding the birds. Still we managed to get to shops and back in the dry (weather again) and so much of what we do is ruled by the climate. Needless to say just felt I had to add.................'it never rains but it pours'  as yet more forms for filling drop through the letter box. Just as well I was a secretary in an earlier life eh.Have good weekend all.Jules

Hi everyone,

Since weather seems to be the subject of the moment I thought this might be appropriate,

"Not reassuring when weathermen say - 'Today will be terrible but don't worry it won't be as terrible as tomorrow or Friday."  Jonah Goldberg.

Don't worry about the spelling Brian, mine has been getting steadily worse since I left college.  Although since joining this site it is improving again.

Good to see you back again Sofia, I join Brian in hoping the operation went well.

Best to all.

Hi Folks,

As laughter makes us all feel better and I started a thread titled "Laughter as a medicine" some time ago, I have searched out some quotes that are laughter related. The first one is by Lord Byron.

"Always laugh when you can. Its a cheap medicine".

This is so true. In my life I have often seen people's moods changed by laughter and it does make us feel so much better so I will be continuing with this theme for a few days.

Have a great weekend Brian

Morning everyone,

I didn't say good morning today as it's raining, cold damp and blooming miserable here in Sussex this morning. So I will continue on with the quotes about laughter. I found this one and although I have never heard of this person before, I love what they wrote. The persons name is Mahogany Silverain. The quotation is as follows:-

"My body need laughter as much as it needs tears. Both are cleansers of stress".

As soon as I saw this quotation, I thought how well it relates to this site.

I would once again thank Sofia for starting off this thread. I had no idea there were so many AMAZING QUOTES out there so thank you Sofia for opening my eyes to them.

I hope you all have a peaceful and stress free weekend everyone, Brian

Hi everyone,

The quotation I have for today is by Albert Einstein.

"When you are courting a nice girl, an hour seems like a second. When you sit on a red hot cinder, a second seems like an hour. That's relativity".

I often try to equate theses quotes to how we see things on this site. So this is my interpretation.

Sitting on the red hot cinder equates to waiting for test, scans, appointments, treatment etcetera. for time seems to stand still. Courting a nice girl is when we get a few moments to enjoy ourselves, for time always seems to go so fast and often feels like it's over in the blink of an eye.

Sending best wishes to you all, Brian

Hi everyone,

Sofia you have nothing to be sorry for.  You have just had a massive operation and are still having treatment.  As long as the Op' went well and you are recovering that's all that matters.  I hope you feel more like yourself very soon.

I saw this quote a couple of days ago that I think may have been written by Brian's favourite "anonymous" author, it really made me laugh when I read it.

Never argue with an idiot.  He will only bring you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

All the best to you all.

I like that one Garf, thanks for posting that.

This continues with Quotes about laughter. The one I have for today is by Jay Leno.

"You cannot be mad at someone who make you laugh".

I use this to good effect when occasionally my wife gets mad with me (Cant say I blame her for that) I just set about making her laugh and eventually she forgives me and ends up laughing too. She has a lot to put up with living with me, for I can be very aggravating at times. At least this is what she tells me anyway

Hi everyone,

Here is my quote for today. Sorry It's a bit late but have been bust today. today's quotation is by George Carlin.

"Have you ever noticed that anyone driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster is a maniac".

Some years ago, I remember a half hour show by the comedian Dave Allen which was nearly all about cars and driving which I thought was so funny. He made the comment that when we are driving a car, we become much more judgemental than ever, a view that I though was so true.

Best wishes to you all, Brian

Good morning everyone,

I have today's quotation and it's by Mort Walker and is back to the subject of laughter.

"Seven days without laughter make one weak".

I like the play on the word "Weak". Laughter can do so much to lift our spirits and ease our pain. I have told my wife, if I ever stop laughing, she is to kick me up the rear end, something she has enthusiastically agreed to do (although a little bit too enthusiastically for my liking)

Sending you all best wishes, Brian

Laughter features yet again in today's quotation. It's by Josh Billings.

Hi Everyone,

I came across this quotation by Mark Twain a few minutes ago and knew I had to post it on here.

"Kindness is the laguage which the deaf can hear and the blind can see"

I thought this quotation was so appropriate for this site. For there are so many people on here, handing out kind words to people they will probably never meet, even though they are suffering greatly themselves. I get a great lift when one of our new members reaches out and offers help to others. Most of us are suffering the affects of cancer in one way or another, yet we all have the capacity to help one another by sharing our experiance's and by offering a few kind words.

Hope you all have a great Easter, best wishes to you all, Brian

Hi folks,

I have another quote for today which is not known who it was written by.

"More powerful than the will to win, is the courage to begin"

This could apply to so many things, but I always try to relate how these quotes could apply to peoples experience with cancer. Some people on here have to make hard decisions about whither to have operations or treatments that a lot of people find hard to cope with. It often take's a lot of courage to make these decisions as there is always the "what if" situation, and it is so hard for for us to know which is the right decision for us as individuals.

Have a great day everyone, Brian

Today I am back to the Quotations about laughter. There is so much sadness, a little laughter can lift our spirits, even if only for a short time.

Today's quotation is by Greg Evans.

"Laughter is a good disease. If only it spreads as easily".

It's often said, laughter is the best medicine of all. Most of all I love to hear the laughter of young children. There is an advert on the TV which shows some young children chuckling and laughing away and I always end up laughing with them too, for laughter is so infectious.

Hoping you all have a good and peaceful day, Brian

Good morning all,

Here is my quotation for today. Sounds almost like I'm reading out the weather forecast, doesn't it!!!!!!!!!!

Today's quote is by Sir Wilfred Grefell.

"Real joy comes not from ease or riches or from the praise of men, but from doing something worthwhile".

I often try to evaluate how the quote relates to actions taken by people on this great site. My opinion, for what it's worth with regard to this quote is that there are so many people on this site, giving help, comfort and support to others suffering from cancer, by doing something so worthwhile they are also spreading a little joy in the process.

Have a peacfull weekend everyone, Brian.

Good Afternoon everyone,

I realized I haven't included a quotation from Helen Keller for some while and as I like her writings, thought I would put that right today although Garf put one of hers in recently.

"What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us".

This applies so much to people we have lost. Moments we have enjoyed with our loved ones in the past become treasured memories we will never lose. I fully endorse the part pertaining to the part about who we love deeply becoming a part of us when we lose them. That is something I have believed for many years and mainly relates to losing one of our parents.

Take care , Brian

Good afternoon all,

Just came across this quote today and thought it might inject a little humour into this thread. The quote is by Mark Twain.

"What would men be without women? Scarce sir....mighty scarce".

Without my wife beside me throughout my life, I don't know what I would have become. But one thing I do know, I would not be as happy and contented as I am today. She has not only provided me with a wonderful son (with a little help from me I might add) and consequently three lovely grandchildren but she has also saved my life by pushing me to go to the doctors where it was discovered I had prostate cancer, from which I have made a good recovery. Had she not done so the cancer would have probably escaped and migrated elsewhere with a totally different outcome.

So I would like to dedicate this quote to all the lovely ladies on this site. Thanks for being what you are ladies.

Hi Everyone

I came across this quotation yesterday and though how true to life it is. It was written by Robert A Heinlein and reads:-

"Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea".

I know my dear wife fits this quotation perfectly and although it has taken a long time, I have come to realize she will do what she wants to do and who can blame her.

I will say no more as I don't want to get in big trouble with all the lovely ladies on this site.

"Kind words can be easily to speak, but their echoes are truly endless"

I would just like to add, kind word don't cost us anything but often mean so much to others, and can often have a lasting impact on other peoples lives. During the time I have been on this site, so many people have said kind words to me, recently regarding my fathers continued visits to hospital in Canada so thanks everyone.

Today's quotation is by Madeline L'engle

"Stories are like children. They grow in their own way".

Some of the short stories I have written, often end up totally different from what I had first envisaged. Sometimes halfway through, I have come up with a better plot and have had to re-write part of the story so I do agree with this quotation 100%

Hope this turn out to be a great week for you all, Brian
