  • Hello Kazcoco,

Welcome to our friendly forum. Poor you it must be really difficult to deal with this sensation of feeling like a stanger in your own body. It might be worth -  if you haven't done it already - talking to your GP about it to see if they can recommend anything to minimize these side effects and help you feel a little better both on a physical and emotional level.

I am sure that many other ladies on this forum who have had breast cancer and are suffering similar effects from treatment will be able to relate to these symptoms you describe. I noticed in your other thread that Billygoat suggested you have a look at The Good and the Bad discussion on the forum which was started by [@Sandra123]‍  - there are many ladies there who have had breast cancer and been in a similar position to yourself.  Hopefully they will come along shortly and share their experience with you.

I hope you feel better soon Kazcoco and we're all here anytime you need to chat!

    Best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Hi kazcoco

just wondering if you have a follow up with the consultant soon. I ask because I had one with mine 6 wks after starting meds just to ask how I was on the meds re side effects etc. Then my next was 6 mths later then onto annual.

If you don’t have an appointment ring your breast care nurse and ask her for advice.. if needed she should be able to sort an appointment with the consultant.

I don’t have the injections but I am on letrozole. About 3 wks after starting I started to get terrible aches nd pains so much I was nearly crawling up my stairs but as advised I persevered and sure enough 2 more wks and it stopped almost overnight.... just in time for that 6 wk check up.

it sounds like it’s been longer than that for you so you really need to speak to someone. They may decide to change the meds u r on.

I have always taken mine just before bed ( I read somewhere that this can help.... no idea if it does but.... what the hey eh :-) )

im tagging [@rileyroo]‍ cos I’m sure she had problems and  is brill with advice.

try and find the good and the bad thread..... lots of us on there post surgery/radiotherapy. We talk about everything not just cancer but more importantly we all support each other. It’s also good to see how people can and have picked their lives back up. There for the good and more importantly the bad. Drop by and join in if you would like too.

Take care lass - Sandra x

  • Got a appointment monday with original consultant Saw onconlogist after six weeks all he said was clear see you in a year.

  • Hi there. The last appointment I had with the oncologist (only had 2) felt pretty dismissive. Any problems see the Breast unit who were past disinterested.

Don’t know which tablets you are on, my current one is Tamoxifen and I have to say after three days I was ready for chucking myself off a cliff. Felt so low, sweaty, no sleep etc. Some one at work suggested that I might be able to cope better if I took half a tablet at a time, she was right.

Talk to some one  the early days on these things are horrible.

The registrar in oncology was scandalised with me doing this but the consultant said if I could handle it this way, he was happy to prescribe a smaller dose to be taken twice a day. He said that was how Tamoxifen used to be given anyway.

  • Thank you thought was just me. I am on letrozole and the injection which I have no idea what it’s called.

Will see what consultant says on Monday I’m ready to strangle someone thank you for replying

  • Try to make them listen, when it comes to some of this stuff, they only see the treatment plan, not the effect it is having. If you can get through the next few weeks, as Sandra says it should start to improve and if it doesn’t and you can’t deal with it, then something has to happen

  • Hi

yup I too only saw the oncologist x2. She discharged me back to the consultant surgeon 1 wk into 3 wks of my radiotherapy.

it is the consultant surgeon who prescribed the letrozole and carries out the routine checkups. They always start the consultation asking how I feel and any problems with the medication. Then they do a breast exam.

Mine seems to work that I have annual mammogram nd 6 mths later what is now an annual check up with the consultant- 6 mths later back for annual mammogram rpt.

how long have you been taking the letrozole?

  • I have been taking the letrozole and having the injection since feb 2019

  • I thought it had been a little while. So.... def need to speak with your consultant to see what they can change but it still cover you.

On a count down till your appointment but each day takes you closer.

Chin up lass it’s gett here ️

  • Thank you so much for your advice ️
