Advanced oesophageal Cancer and Lymph Cancer

My 67 year old husband has been diagnosed with this.  It is too far gone to treat.  What can we expect as time goes on?

  • Hello Crystal222.

Welcome to the forum although I'm so sorry to hear about your husband's diganosis. Undoubtedly it's a difficult time for you all.

It's important to remember that each person's journey with cancer can be different but we do have some information on our website about advanced oesophageal cancer which may be of help.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our team of nurses they are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    I hope this helps.
    Best wishes,

  • Hi Crystal,

I'm so sorry to read about your husband's diagnosis.

At the risk of sounding insensitive, what exactly did his consultant say?

I ask because when I was first diagnosed it was by an Upper GI surgeon who abruptly told me that my stage 4 case was "inoperable and incurable". From his narrow point of view I was untreatable, but a week later during my first appointment with my oncologist we discussed palliative care options which included chemo.

I'd hate to raise false hope but sometimes these professionals fail to communicate properly with patients and their families.

    Best wishes

    Dave

  • Sorry to hear of your diagnosis.

How long ago were you diagnosed?  Has chemo helped you?

Yes this was what we were told.  It also spread to lymph nodes too.  T4 N4 M1 We were told chemo wouldn't give us much more time.

I have seen your about you page and see that his is very similar to yours.  We shall see if this is possible for us and this sounds a lot more optimistic than we first thought.
