Chemotherapy drugs

Find out about the different chemotherapy drugs used for bile duct cancer (cholangiocarcinoma) and their side effects. 

The drugs most commonly used to treat bile duct cancer are gemcitabine and cisplatin. You might have capecitabine on its own after surgery to remove bile duct cancer. 


Capecitabine is a chemotherapy drug and has the brand name Xeloda (pronounced zel-oh-dah).


Gemcitabine is one of a group of chemotherapy drugs called anti metabolites.


Cisplatin is a chemotherapy drug that is used to treat different types of cancer.


Fluorouracil is also known as FU or 5FU and is one of the most commonly used drugs to treat cancer.


Oxaliplatin is a chemotherapy drug based on platinum.
