Itinerary

Days 1 & 2 Depart from London for flight to Beijing. Transfer to hotel near the Great Wall for dinner, briefing and overnight stay.

Day 3 Short transfer to the Wall at Gubeikou. Trek from Gubeikou to Jinshanling, before descending through a local village back to our lodge.

Day 4 Trek from Jinshanling to Simitai covering 32 watchtowers. Along this part of the Wall you will see spectacular scenery, as well as meet the locals who earn their living helping tourists up the steep slopes. Some parts of the wall have uneven steps, but it is generally easy going under foot – just tough on the lungs and legs! We will then descend down to Simatai for an overnight stay.

Day 5 Morning trek from Simatai along the East Section of the Wall, before descending to Gangfang village for our lunch. You will get the chance to experience local village life before our afternoon trek back to Simatai. Afterwards, we will transfer to our lodge at Wuzoulou for a traditional Chinese barbeque dinner.

Day 6 An early start for our trek uphill to the top of Wuzoulou Mountain. If the weather is clear, we will be rewarded with stunning views down to the nearby reservoirs from the isolated watchtowers, on this the last part of the wall built in the Ming dynasty. Today we reach the highest point of our trek, 1,100m, before descending back to Wuzoulou for a well deserved rest and dinner. We'll stay overnight in a local hotel.

Day 7 Transfer to Black Dragon Paw Gorge for a trek through Waterfall Park. A relatively easy day passing lakes, gorges and spectacular waterfalls. After lunch we descend slowly into the local village before transferring to our final hotel near the Wall.

Day 8 Our final day of trekking along the Wall at Mutianyu. We trek through the watchtowers, to the furthermost accessible point. This is the most challenging part of the walk, ending with steps up a steep incline. The effort is well worth it because at Mutianyu the views are stunning and you should be able to see the Wall for miles – a perfect place to end the challenge. Transfer back to Beijing for a Gala dinner.

Day 9 A free day to explore the fascinating city of Beijing.

Day 10 Return flight to London.
