Patient Representative - Help us review funding for our Clinical Trials Units

This year, we'll be reviewing our funding for Clinical Trials Units across the country. We want you to play a key role in the decision making process to ensure that researchers have access to the resources they need to test new potential cancer treatments.

Opportunity deadline: Friday 30 June

Opportunity start date: Monday 21 August

Location: London

Payment and expenses: Travel expenses will be covered by Cancer Research UK - for information on our expenses policy or to discuss any particular travel needs you may have, please contact involvement@cancer.org.uk. Accommodation next to the meeting venue will be provided, as will catering for the duration of the meeting.

Due to the significant time commitment required for this role, CRUK can offer an honorarium of £900 to the patient representative to cover the full extent of the work involved.

In October, we'll bring together a panel of international experts to help us review our funding for Clinical Trials Units (CTUs) across the UK. We are looking for a person affected by cancer to join the panel.

What are CTUs?

These units are key to delivering practice-changing clinical trials that can improve the treatment options available to patients and help us achieve our ambition of 3 in 4 people surviving cancer by 2034. If you would like further information on CTUs and how we fund them, please see our website.

What will the panel do? What will my role be?

The panel will review funding applications from the CTUs, interview applicants, and then vote on the final funding decisions. You'll be asked to focus primarily on assessing the Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) activities and strategies of CTUs applying for funding. As a full member of the panel, you'll review funding applications from home. You'll then attend a panel meeting in London, at which you'll discuss the applications, be involved in applicant interviews, and vote on funding decisions.
