Anna, Corporate Partnerships Team volunteer
Anna supported the Festivals Project in our Corporate Partnerships Team during the summer of 2012.
"I wanted to gain experience or working in the Corporate Partnerships team of a large charity,” she said. “I was particularly interested in supporting CRUK as it is such a successful, dynamic and inspiring charity. I saw the volunteer role profile online on the Cancer Research UK website and applied!"
What she did
Anna’s role was to coordinate and brief volunteers and to evaluate the project after the festivals season came to an end. She was given her own responsibilities and embraced the opportunity to own certain parts of the role.
Anna’s volunteering highlights
"I have gained a new working knowledge of Corporate Partnerships and of Cancer Research UK. I have been able to develop and demonstrate my skills in building and maintaining my time. I’ve also learnt to use Survey Monkey!"
Volunteering for CRUK is a great way to improve your skills and experience, make connections, learn new skills and gain an insight into the world of one of the UK’s leading charities. Anna said that her volunteering experience helped her prepare for the working world.
"It has been great to talk to other members of staff within the Corporate Partnerships team and to find out more about how they got started.
"My experiences at Cancer Research UK have really added to my CV and given me lots more to talk about during interviews. I would say it has been an invaluable experience that I would recommend to anyone.
"I would recommend that you embrace the opportunity, take in as much as you can and put your all into the tasks you are given.
"If you have the opportunity to work with members of the team outside your own pod it is a great way of seeing how other people work and the other partners that Cancer Research UK works with."
