The route starts from within the centre of the forest tracks. With muddy tracks and steep hill climbs this course will offer a challenge, but with the amazing views across the Durham Dales the thigh-burn will be worth it!

The course will be a mixture of muddy paths and stone tracks as well as a couple of dips to wet your feet through the ford.

Please note this is an initial course description and the route may change before the event.

You must be aged 16 or over on the day of the event to take part. Persons aged 16 or 17 must take part with either a parent, guardian or, if having obtained their parent or legal guardian’s permission, another registered participant aged 18 or over.

Due to the nature and terrain of the course it is not suitable for wheelchair access or pushchairs. Please note the main event area and also the event car parks are all on grass.

Here are some instructions on how to attach it on the day.

Hamsterley Forest sits wedged between Teesdale and Weardale in the heart of beautiful Durham Dales, approximately 10 miles (16 km) west of Bishop Auckland.

By Car

The forest is signposted off the A68, north of West Auckland.

Parking Charge

Please note, ALL vehicles are charged to access the forest and it’s facilities, the cost will be £6 per car, so if participating with friends we encourage you to car share. The entry fee allows access to the forest and the facilities for the entire day.

The forest operates a 'pay and display' system. Tickets can be bought at car park machines using coins. If you require change, you can purchase a ticket from the information point or cafe.

By Public Transport
The forest is not served directly by public transport services. The nearest town on a bus route is Wolsingham, five miles north of the forest entrance.

The race will start at 11am.

Please arrive 45 minutes before the start, as there is a 5-10minute drive, within the Forest, to reach the start point of the event.

You will need your running number that will be sent to you in the post prior to your event.

Before the race starts there will be a short warm up and safety briefing.

The route at Hamsterley Forest is a mixture of uneven paths, rocky and gravel tracks, grass areas, some tarmac roads and a couple of Fords to cross. Strong, supportive running shoes are essential however any trail shoes with spikes may find the rocks and gravel really tricky to grip on to.

Please make sure you bring spare layers and dress appropriately for the conditions.
