Your running kit

What should you wear when running? It's a case of anything goes (well almost!). The important thing is that you feel comfortable.

Shorts: most runners run in loose-fitting shorts made from synthetic fabrics, or in cycling shorts.

T-shirts: cotton is best.

Socks: synthetic fabrics provide warmth but draw moisture away from the skin. Look out for socks with blister-resistant technology and cushioning.

Running shoes

The most important purchase you should make as a runner is a good pair of running shoes. However, with so many brands and designs available, choosing the right pair can be overwhelming!

  • When choosing a pair of running shoes forget technical spec or flash designs – fit and comfort are the two most important factors to consider.
  • Training shoes are renowned for being smaller than everyday shoes so you may need to buy a half to a full size larger than your other shoes. It's worth having your feet measured (even if you think you know your shoe size) and take a pair of running socks with you as their thickness will affect the fit of the shoe.

For further advice on finding the right trainers see the realbuzz.com shoe guide, supported by Reebok.
