Where your money goes
Tackling bowel cancer
Every penny you raise in sponsorship for Run for Moore goes directly to the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK to help us tackle bowel cancer.
Bowel cancer claims the lives of 44 people every day in the UK. Your donations help us in our quest to save lives and help the 36,500 people diagnosed with bowel cancer in the UK each year.
Achievements
Since the Bobby Moore Fund was set up, in partnership with Cancer Research UK in 1993, we've established a number of Bobby Moore Fellowships. The fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis, which ensures they are awarded to the best scientists.
To date we've handed out over 35 research fellowships and have raised over £10 million for research into bowel cancer.
Our research
Researchers supported by the Bobby Moore Fund have found new gene faults involved in bowel cancer, paving the way for genetic tests and more effective treatments.
Early detection for bowel cancer is crucial, so the Bobby Moore Fund is supporting projects aimed at spotting the disease in its early stages. Researchers are developing techniques to alert GPs to the symptoms of the disease, and working on more sensitive screening tests.
Bowel screening
Cancer Research UK was also instrumental in rescuing plans for the implementation of a bowel screening programme after the NHS ran into financial difficulties in 2006.
Our continued pressure on the government ensured funding for the programme was secured and that screening is now being rolled out across the UK.
Help us tackle bowel cancer
We've achieved a lot already, but there's much more to do. With your help we hope to raise greater awareness and even more funds so that we can continue our life-saving work and help those affected by bowel cancer.
