Inspiration
Steve's story of determination is truly inspirational to all those around him. In 1990, Steve had his life turned upside down when he was horrifically injured as a passenger in a car accident.
The accident left him in a coma for four months and in hospital for a year. The brain damage Steven sustained meant that he had to re-learn basic skills like walking, talking and eating.
However, Steve gradually set about rebuilding his life and the chance to work at Wentworth Golf Club gave him a real purpose.
Supporting the Fund
Steven's life suffered a further setback when his mum, Kathy, was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 1999. After undergoing aggressive treatment, she is thankfully now in remission.
Steven has chosen to fundraise for the Bobby Moore Fund as a way of saying 'thank you' for her survival.
On choosing to support the Fund Steve says, "As a sports fan, the chance to run in Bobby Moore's memory was irresistible to me."
"Bowel cancer nearly robbed me of the person who has been by my side throughout all my trials and tribulations. I don't know how I would have coped without my mum."
Fundraising success
Since his accident, and choosing to support the Fund, Steven has taken part in three London Marathons, the New York Marathon and several other half-marathons. He has raised over £50,000 to help tackle bowel cancer.
Steve says, "Some people think that running 5km is a long way, but I tell them that two steps is a long way when you can't walk. When you've been through what I've been through, running a long way is no big deal."
