Where your money goes

Tackling bowel cancer with your help

The Bobby Moore laboratoryEvery penny you raise in sponsorship for Run for Moore goes directly to the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK to help us tackle bowel cancer.

Bowel cancer claims the lives of 45 people every day in the UK. Your donations help us in our quest to save lives and help the 35,000 people diagnosed with bowel cancer in the UK each year.

Achievements

Since the Bobby Moore Fund was set up, in partnership with Cancer Research UK in 1993, we've established a number of Bobby Moore Fellowships. The Fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis ensuring they are awarded to the best scientists.

To date we've handed out 17 Fellowships and have raised over £10 million for research into bowel cancer.

Another major milestone in our history, which our supporters helped us achieve, was raising £425,000 to build a new laboratory in the name of Bobby Moore at St Mark's hospital in London, which opened in 2005.

We were also instrumental in rescuing plans for the implementation of a bowel screening programme after the NHS ran into financial difficulties in 2006. Our continued pressure on the government ensured funding for the programme was secured and that screening is now being rolled out across the UK. Find out more about the bowel screening programme.

But our work's not done yet, we still need to do more. With your help we hope to raise more awareness and to raise even more funds so we can continue our life-saving work and help those affected by bowel cancer.
