Miscommunication in pancreatic cancer

Dr Claus Jorgensen and his team at the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute are studying the way pancreatic cancer cells respond to and communicate with healthy cells surrounding them.

Dr Jorgensen is particularly interested in the chemical messages that are sent between cells as pancreatic cancer develops. He is hoping to identify key signals that drive tumour growth and help the cancer cells to spread around the body.

Working out how cell to cell communication goes awry in cancer might lead to innovative new ways to treat the disease. Survival from pancreatic cancer has changed little over the years, so developing game-changing new treatments, through research like this, is one of our top priorities.
