Junk Free TV

A campaign to tackle children's obesity

What does the campaign aim to achieve?

We want the Government to extend current TV junk food advertising restrictions to 9pm. This measure will reduce children’s exposure to unhealthy food by more than half and help tackle children’s obesity.

Why? Obesity is the 2nd biggest preventable cause of cancer in the UK after smoking. Currently, 1 in 3 children in the UK leave primary school overweight or obese. This is a big problem because an obese child is around 5 times more likely to become an obese adult, increasing their risk of cancer later in life.

Research shows that children are vulnerable to the powers of marketing. Junk food adverts influence the type and quantity of food children eat, which can have a damaging effect on their health. Extending advertising restrictions to 9pm will protect children, and also support parents.

We need MPs to be aware of the link between obesity and cancer. Take action now by tweeting your MP.
