Working with Westminster

Big BenAlthough Cancer Research UK is an independent organisation, we need to work with Government and the main political parties if we are going to achieve our vision that together we will beat cancer.

Our expertise in cancer, health and science policy informs our work with political decision-makers.

Influencing policy

Cancer Research UK is uniquely placed to inform political debate. Our scientists, doctors and nurses give expert advice to those developing science and healthcare policies.

We respond to consultations from the Department of Health, NICE and other bodies. We also influence policy by providing Parliamentarians with briefings and giving evidence to Select Committees and All Party Parliamentary Groups.

Wherever we can, we work together with other organisations to lobby for legislative changes that will benefit patients.

Find out more about our work

We run a programme of events in Westminster. The party conferences are also an important time for us to meet with Ministers, politicians and civil servants.

We work with all MPs and peers who are interested in cancer issues. Cancer Research UK's experts have also given talks on their latest research at various All Party Groups. All MPs receive our regular e-bulletin.

How can I contact my MP?

Not sure who your local MP is? Use the handy Parliament MP finder to find out. And if you want to lobby your local MP on cancer issues, you can contact them through our Cancer Campaigns website.

On Cancer Campaigns, you can send an email to your MP, sign an online petition or take part in a poll. It only takes a minute, and every campaign email makes a difference.
