Our policy on maintaining a healthy charity sector
Cancer Research UK is the UK's largest fundraising charity. In order for us to achieve our ambitious goals, it is essential that the right environment exists for us to operate as a charity. We rely on the public's generosity to fund our groundbreaking work. The Government has a crucial role in supporting and enabling charities such as Cancer Research UK to thrive.
We also work with umbrella bodies such as the National Council of Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), the Institute of Fundraising (IoF) and the Charity Tax Group (CTG) to ensure that the voice of the charitable sector is heard by politicians across the UK.
The main political parties have discussed creating a 'social norm' of charitable giving and volunteering. We would welcome the development of such a norm and urge the Government to help charities to maximise their current income streams and to develop new and innovative ways of giving in order to drive up donations and support for the sector.
