Skin cancer screening
This page is about screening for skin cancer.
Screening means testing people for early stages of a disease before they have any symptoms. At the moment there is no general screening programme in the UK for non melanoma skin cancer. If there were a screening programme, it would take up a great deal of time and money. It could be argued that it does not make sense to spend such a lot on picking up cancers that are slow growing and nearly always curable. Non melanoma skin cancers are most common on areas exposed to the most sun, and so patients or their close friends or relatives usually spot them in plenty of time to have successful treatment.
Look at the page on symptoms and risk factors in this section, and make sure you know if you are at risk and what to look out for.
Also, look at the information in this section on how to protect your skin from the sun.
