Effects of the sun on my skin - a tan can be so harmful
From Mrs Heather Stabler
I am at present living in the USA. I should have moved back to the UK two weeks ago, but was diagnosed with skin cancer. I have malignant melanoma on my leg and basal cell carcinoma on my nose.
Well a five inch scar later and a three hours nose surgery and I hope they have got it all. I was never a sun worshipper, but will now put on my spf 30+ every two hours, and opt for the shade where necessary. My surgeon told me that melanoma can be a hereditary cancer in some families, so I will make sure my daughter puts on her sunblock and takes precautions so she never has to go through what I have. People in the UK need to be more aware of the damaging effects of the sun and sunbeds. Knowledge is power.
NOW is the time to start taking responsibility for your health. A tan is not always as nice as you think. It could be deadly - is it worth it?
