A suntan's not worth it - my malignant melanoma story

Grandparents and children sharing tips and stories

From Mrs Charlene Bell

I was diagnosed with malignant melonoma, March 2006. The mole was removed, but it had gone into my chest wall. I had the tumour removed from my chest wall. It was then discovered the melanoma had spread into my lymph node under my arm. I had surgery to have node and all glands removed from under my right arm.

I loved the sun and had no idea the sun could cause this devastation. I have managed to go back to work but it is a daily struggle. Who knows what the future holds, but hopefully writing this can raise awareness, and promote safe sun.

A gorgeous golden suntan's just not worth it.
