Hair loss from chemotherapy
From Alicia Moore in Glasgow
My chemotherapy treatment is in 3 weekly cycles (every 21 days). After my first treatment I expected my hair to fall out pretty quickly. This didn't actually happen until just before my second treatment.
Around day 15 after treatment I noticed clumps of hair coming out in my hands so I decided to take matters into my own hands and get my hair cut short. I went to my usual hairdresser who gave me a very trendy spiky cut. I thought this would have been enough for me to be able to keep my hair for a longer period but unfortunately it just kept falling out into my eyes and my mouth!
Although it was expected, it was still very upsetting for me. It became unbearable after 4 days. I didn't want this to beat me so I again decided to take control and shave my hair off completely.
Some people were shocked but I felt liberated; I was making the decisions, not the side effects of the treatment!
