Getting through breast cancer treatment
From Jackie Hughes
I was diagnosed with a 3cm breast tumour in June 2006. I had a wide local insertion in August and started 6 sessions of chemotherapy on the 3rd of October. I've just had my fifth session. Then I am due a 6 week course of radiotherapy.
It's been a strange time, so unreal. I was 37 when i found the lump with no family back ground of cancer. I am married with a son of nearly fifteen and a daughter of 12.
Life goes on but is hard, fitting illness into family life and work. I've had to sign on sick, I thought I could work through chemo but that has not been possible.
I have learnt to listen to my body, if I feel tired lay down, if not to bad try to be normal. I try not to get down, and laugh and joke about my bald head, and weight increase. I try not to get upset in front of family or friends, if I need to cry I have a bath and I have had a lot of baths lately.
Try to be positive it does help, after treatments finished you've a new start to your life.
