Airports and airlines

Most airport websites will have information for people who need special assistance when travelling, such as disabled parking and help getting around the terminal. Websites for the different airlines also have information to help people with medical conditions, such as advice on taking medicines on board and the use of oxygen during a flight.

You can look up the airport you are flying from or the airline you are using by typing the name into an internet search engine (such as Google or Yahoo).

Disability Living Foundation

The DLF offers advice about disability and mobility equipment.

Macmillan Cancer Support

Macmillan Cancer Support offers grants and financial advice. You can contact them on 0808 808 0000 (Monday to Friday 9am to 8pm).

National Rail Enquiries

The National Rail Enquiries website has details of all the train companies, and who to contact to arrange help if you need it. Most companies say to contact them at least 24 hours before you travel.

Disability Rights UK

Disability Rights UK formed in 2012 from the merger of the Disability Alliance, RADAR (Royal Association for Disability Rights) and the National Centre for Independent Living. They have produced a guide on holidays in the UK, which you can buy from their website for £13.99.

The Red Cross

The Red Cross offer a transport service. This can include an escort if you need one. They can also lend you equipment.

Tourism for All

Tourism for All provides information about accessible accommodation to people with disabilities and older people. Includes information about respite care.
