Finding reliable prostate cancer information

How do I know that information on the internet about prostate cancer is accurate and up to date?

It can be difficult to work out what is accurate, up to date information and what is not. There is so much information out there, distinguishing between different sources is not easy. It’s important for people to be able to trust that the medical information they read is factual and not just someone’s opinion or in the case of remedies sold on line, a marketing ploy.

For prostate cancer, however, it has been made easier by the UK Prostate Link website. This website aims to help you find the most reliable, up to date information about prostate cancer.

The project is run by information specialists and supported by several major cancer charities in the UK, including Cancer Research UK and Prostate Cancer UK. They have looked at over 50 websites that provide information about prostate cancer. This includes information about risks, tests and treatment. For each piece of information they give a star rating. The more stars they give, the more reliable the information is and the easier the website is to use.

The list is laid out so that the highest star rated pieces of information come at the top of the list. They provide a link to the information so that you can access it easily. They also tell you how and why they have rated the information.

We also have a question and answer about finding information on the internet in our question and answer section. This includes information about how to check that information is reliable.
