What's in the podcast

We hear from Dr Jason Carroll, based at the new Cancer Research UK Cambridge Research Institute. He is working to understand the precise role that the female sex hormone oestrogen plays in breast cancer.

Drugs such as tamoxifen block the action of oestrogen, and help to stop breast cancers from growing. But sometimes the treatment stops working and the cancer comes back.

Dr Carroll explains how he and his team are using the latest technology to find out why this happens, so we can develop better ways to treat breast cancer in the future.

One of Cancer Research UK's cancer information nurses, Jean Slocombe, tells us what women should look for when checking their breasts. Do you know the key signs to look for and how often should you check?

Finally, breast cancer survivor Barbara Powell shares her story. Her cancer was picked up during a routine mammogram, highlighting the importance of breast cancer screening.

We hope you enjoy the show. Don't forget that you can get the latest news about all Cancer Research UK's work every month in our regular podcast.
