What's in the podcast
Many breast cancers are picked up by women themselves but what should you be checking for? Kat chats to Cancer Information Nurse Jean Slocombe, to discover the key signs and symptoms to look for, and highlights the importance of going for regular breast screening when invited.
Radiologist Dr Sarah Burnett knew that her family history put her at increased risk of breast cancer. But she was still shocked when she noticed something unusual on her own mammogram. Kat talks to Dr Sarah about her story, and why she's helping to raise money for Cancer Research UK's vital work.
Finally, we meet Professor Charles Coombes, one of the most distinguished breast cancer researchers in the UK. Professor Coombes' work helped to lead to the development of aromatase inhibitors drugs that are powerful weapons in our fight against breast cancer.
Professor Coombes explains why some breast cancers can come back after treatment, even after many years, and how he and his team are developing new treatments to help women survive for longer.
We hope you enjoy the show. Don't forget that you can get the latest news about all Cancer Research UK's work every month in our regular podcast.
