Make a difference in the heart of Ecuador28 February – 11 March 2009
Project Ecuador will involve an eleven day trip to renovate a dilapidated school and football pitch in partnership with the local population in El Pedregal. About the projectEl Pedregal Primary School is an hour and a half drive from Quito, at an altitude of 3500 metres. The school has approximately 35 children, from 4-11 years old, taught by 3 teachers. The rural community has approximately 120 families and these are located in both Pedregal and the next village of Loretta. The school is at the heart of this community. The students and staff are extremely welcoming and will work alongside project participants. In rural Ecuador adults perform a type of community service called Minga which sees them give up their own time to work on community projects. The parents and local community are very committed to their children's education and Project Ecuador will benefit from Minga activity. The team will spend several days working on the project and, on the final day, there will be a 'handover ceremony' to the local community. A football match against a local team and celebratory gala dinner will mark the end of the trip. Your fundraising will go to the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK to help tackle bowel cancer. Stephanie Moore MBE, Bobby Moore's widow and founder of the Bobby Moore Fund, said: "I took part in the 05, 06 and 07 Projects and found them to be the most rewarding experiences of my life. The help that is being given in these remote areas is vital for the local people to be able to remain in their village, and the money raised through the participants' fantastic fundraising efforts is hugely important to the work of the Bobby Moore Fund. To know that you are making a real difference to both causes is something very special." Sign up now to take part in this very special experience.
