Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Previous renovating experience or building skills are not necessary. This project will involve manual labour and activity of up to eight hours per day. The itinerary is designed to be challenging but achievable for the average person, however it is important that you get fit in order to get the most out of the project and complete the work required as a team. Even if you are accustomed to manual work, you will probably not be used to working eight hours a day over several consecutive days in hot temperatures. We recommend you undertake a variety of training methods to improve both your general fitness and joint/muscle strength.

Participants are of all ages (you must be 18 or over), from many backgrounds and varying levels of fitness. Many come on their own and it's a great way to make new friends. Everyone is united in the fact that they have raised a great deal of money for the Bobby Moore Fund and are about to embark upon the challenge of a lifetime.

Group size can vary between 35 – 50 people.

  • Return flights from London Heathrow to the destination and internal travel arrangements on the Project
  • Accommodation is two person tents
  • All food and refreshments on the challenge, unless otherwise stated
  • All camping equipment (where relevant) other than a sleeping bag and a sleeping mat
  • Full support with local guides, tour operator leaders, a doctor and a Cancer Research UK representative
  • Bobby Moore Fund t-shirts

  • Insurance (approximately £50 – £80). It is a requirement of registration that you take out sufficient insurance for the project. You will be sent the tour operator's recommendations nearer departure
  • Visas where required (approximately £50)
  • Personal equipment (you will be sent a detailed kit list in your welcome pack)
  • A tip for local guides and staff (approximately £20 – £30)
  • Personal spending money (we recommend approximately £150 – £250)

We endeavour to ensure that a minimum of two-thirds of all funds raised by our participants goes towards our research. This is achieved through our minimum sponsorship targets. Your registration fee is used to cover the initial flight deposit, fundraising materials, mailings and administration for the challenge. It does not contribute towards your fundraising total. The remaining tour costs are paid from the money you raise or you may prefer to cover the costs yourself. Anything over and above the tour costs (outlined on this website) will go directly to the charity. The more money raised, the more research we can fund.

Fundraising tips are included in the welcome pack and you can also visit our fundraising page. The team are here to help so please do call us anytime on 020 7009 8881. We recommend you consider setting up an online fundraising page. You can either call the team or visit our online fundraising page.

All cheques must be made payable to "The Bobby Moore Fund" and sent securely attached to a personal banking form, quoting your reference number and project to: The Bobby Moore Fund, Cancer Research UK, PO Box 125, Tiverton, Devon, EX16 0AE. For added security, please put your name, name of the project and your reference number on the back of the cheque. The cheque will then take about ten working days to process. Once you have registered, visit our online fundraising page. Money automatically gets transferred into our Bobby Moore Fund account. Please note this is only your online total and does not include cheques sent directly to the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK.

The Bobby Moore Fund must receive 80% of your minimum fundraising target ten weeks before your challenge. If you cannot raise the sponsorship money, you will be liable to forfeit your right to participate in the event. However, you may choose to make up the balance yourself. The Bobby Moore Fund Team are here to support you with your fundraising. If you do experience any difficulties please contact us so we can help you to overcome them.

Your kit list will be included in the welcome pack sent to you on registration.

A rucksack or holdall is best for your main luggage. No hard suitcases can be taken. The weight limit is 15kg.

Yes. Tent shares will be accommodated as much as possible subject to availability. The accommodation is two person tents.

This is sent out after the 80% fundraising deadline (ten weeks prior to departure) when your place is confirmed with the tour operator. This is so that we have the most up to date visa information. Don't worry – you will have plenty of time to get your visa (if one is required)!

Yes. One Bobby Moore Fund representative is sent with every 20 – 30 participants on the Project.

It is possible to extend your trip, but this is dependent upon the tour operator and the number of places available to offer as extensions. Details of the extension options are sent to you, once you have reached your 80% fundraising deadline. This is usually for a limited number of people, so it is advisable to apply early if you wish to extend your stay abroad.

In this instance please call the Bobby Moore Fund Team for advice.

An English-speaking doctor accompanies each challenge.

If you take any medication this must be declared on the medical questionnaire at the time of registration. If any medical conditions change then the Bobby Moore Fund must be informed prior to departure as the tour operator will need to know.

Generally these are not a problem, however you must inform us on your registration form.

Dietary requirements will be accommodated as much as possible within limits of the destinations. It is advisable for vegans and people with very specific dietary requirements to bring supplementary snack bars.

Should you have any other query, please call the Bobby Moore Fund on 020 7009 8881.
