Frequently asked questions
We hope we will answer your question below if we don't please email football@cancer.org.uk.
The Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK raises money for research into bowel cancer in memory of footballer Bobby Moore.
Your squad can be between a minimum of 5 or a maximum of 8 players. Please remember only 5 players on a pitch at one time though!
There are 8 regional heats across the UK on Sunday 18 May 2008 in Goals Soccer Centres. Registration will begin at 11 am on the day and the trophy presentation to the winning team will be at approximately 4.30 pm.
The final will be at Upton Park, West Ham in East London on 2 June 2008. Accommodation at the ground will be provided free of charge on Sunday 1 June for participants.
The winning team from each of the 8 regional heats will progress through to the final. With each heat limited to only 30 teams it means you have a great chance of playing at a premiership ground.
We ask that each team raises a minimum of £150 in donations to go towards vital bowel cancer research. However, there are some great prizes for the top online fundraisers of the championship, including a table at our acclaimed Sports Quiz event worth £2,000 and Bobby Moore memorabilia.
100% of the donation money will go towards the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK, which exists to fund research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of bowel cancer, as well as £55 of the £100 entry (the other £45 will cover the costs of the tournament).
Teams will play a guaranteed hour of competitive football and more if they progress further than the group stages. Pitches will also be available for the whole day, so teams who fall at the first hurdle will have the opportunity to play friendly matches.
All these will be provided on the day.
Shin pads are compulsory so please bring these. No studded footwear or blades are permitted to be worn by any player in the tournament. Only training shoes and astro boots may be worn.
Please feel free to wear your Bobby Moore shirts or any other matching shirts you have. However, bibs can be provided on the day.
Yes. Spectators will be able to watch the action from the sidelines and fun fundraising games will be provided at each event so please encourage your friends and family to attend.
All players must be 18 years of age or older.
Unfortunately not. This is a tournament for men only, although we may review this next year.
As soon as you register you'll receive an information pack including 8 Championship T-shirts, donation forms and fundraising information. A week before the regional heat you will also receive a fixture list and further details about the day.
To aid us in recruiting more teams we'd like your help in obtaining regional press coverage. Do you have an interesting story as to why you're taking part or a unique fundraising idea? If so, and you're happy to appear in your local paper then we'd love to hear from you. Please email football@cancer.org.uk with your name, phone number and a few sentences about your story and the Bobby Moore Fund media team will be in touch.
