The cancer information nurses provide an information service only and are unable to access emergency care or talk to health professionals on your behalf.

Accreditation and confidentiality

The cancer information nurse team is a member of the Telephone Helpline Association and has achieved their quality standard.

Our team of nurses aim to answer all email enquiries in five working days. However, their response time may be longer during very busy times. We aim to answer at least 85% of telephone enquiries received during our opening hours.

The service they provide is confidential.

Any personal information you provide will be used solely by the cancer information nurses, and then only to answer your enquiries. Your personal information and details of your enquiry are stored on a secure database.

Our nurses will not pass on your details to anyone else without your permission, except in exceptional circumstances to comply with the nurses' code of professional conduct, or the law.

Examples of when this might happen include children contacting the service to report abuse, anyone reporting serious self harm, expressing the intention of harming someone else, or relaying a terrorist threat.

If for any reason you wish to have your personal details removed from our records, please contact us.

Information for students

As a charity, we do not have the resources available to answer individual requests from students. Our website is our most comprehensive resource, and is constantly updated. For more information about cancer and our research, visit our News and Resources site.
