George Osborne and Charles Kennedy Turn the Tables on Sue Lawley and Clive Anderson

Cancer Research UK

Cancer Research UK's infamous 'Turn the Tables' event returns for its eighth year on Monday 15th October with another explosive line-up. This year's event sees two of the UK's favourite political journalists put under the spotlight as they swap roles for the day with two heavyweights from Westminster.

This year, the renowned lunchtime session will see Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne MP, and former Liberal Democrat leader, the Rt. Hon. Charles Kennedy MP, turn the tables on political broadcasters Sue Lawley and Clive Anderson respectively. The session is guaranteed to get the veteran broadcasters hot under the collar.

Held in association with Clifford Chance1, the event will be chaired by the Rt. Hon. Michael Portillo, while the Rt. Hon. David Mellor QC will be keeping a tight rein on proceedings as adjudicator.

Joining guests for the showdown at The Savoy Hotel, London, will be an array of former participants and political giants including Ann Widdecombe MP, Robert Marshall-Andrews QC MP and the Rt. Hon. Malcolm Rifkind QC MP. For guests eager to get in on the action, there will be an opportunity to join in the debate and pose their own questions to Anderson and Lawley, for a donation of £100 to Cancer Research UK.

Michael Portillo said: "Having spent most of my career on the receiving end of questions, I know what it's like to receive a grilling from the media, so it's always good fun to see politicians getting their own back."

Cancer Research UK National Events Committee Chairman Polly Wood said: "Turn the Tables is always an entertaining event, giving guests a unique insight into some of the country's biggest political and media personalities. With such high profile names in the hot seat this year, it promises to be yet another memorable Turn the Tables encounter.

"As well as providing a change from the run of the mill business lunch, Turn the Tables will raise vital funds to help Cancer Research UK beat cancer. Since the first event back in 2000, it has raised more than £500,000 for the charity's life-saving work."
