Exciting challenges ahead for the Bobby Moore Fund

Cancer Research UK

For the first time, the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK will be staging two international projects to raise funds for vital research into bowel cancer - one in Brazil and the other in South Africa, the venue for the 2010 World Cup.

Project Brazil (taking place from 6-16th October 2007) and Project South Africa (from 18-28 November 2007) will both involve a ten day trip to renovate a remote school and a football pitch. Both projects will be developed in partnership with local people and will give children and their parents the chance to continue their education in their own village. The projects are a fantastic way for people to make a real difference to a community in a remote area of the world whilst raising money for a very worthwhile cause.

Project South Africa will not only raise vital funds for research into bowel cancer but will also leave a lasting legacy to the community. Renovating the football pitch will encourage the children to join together in a sport renowned for breaking down the racial divides that still trouble the country.

Stephanie Moore MBE, Bobby Moore’s widow and founder of the Bobby Moore Fund, said: "It’s very exciting to create a new Project in South Africa and Brazil helping local people within their community.

"The money raised through the participants' fantastic fundraising efforts is hugely important to the work of the Bobby Moore Fund and Cancer Research UK. To know that you are making a real difference to both causes is something very special."

Each participant who takes part in Project Brazil or Project South Africa has a minimum fundraising target of £4,000 and there is a registration fee of £350. The itinerary is designed to be challenging but achievable for the average person, and there is no need to be handy with a toolkit!
