Cancer Research UK wins website award

In collaboration with the Press Association

Cancer Research UK has received an award for its website at the annual Website of the Year awards.

The charity came away with both of the available prizes in the category for Non Profit websites.

It achieved the title 'Best Non Profit Website', which is awarded to the website with the highest average scores for content, navigation and design, as well as the 'Most Popular Non Profit Website' for achieving the highest number of public votes.

Roseann Wilson, Cancer Research UK's director of Internet & New Media, said:"The internet has had a huge impact on how charities engage, fundraise and communicate. It is an important medium in helping us achieve our goals, for example in helping people understand cancer and the progress we are making or enabling us to raise sufficient funds to ensure future progress.

"This means using digital media efficiently and effectively alongside traditional media. Winning this award is a wonderful early Christmas present for the charity, and a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff."

A total of 223 websites were nominated across 18 categories and more than 1.5 million votes were cast between November 3rd and December 8th.

Other winners included well-known brands such as Nokia, YouTube and BBC News, highlighting the strength of the competition.
