Welsh cancer care receives Ј4.5m boost
The Welsh Assembly has announced that its cancer care road map is to receive an additional £4.5 million funding during 2007/08.
The additional funding will be made available to the Welsh Regional Cancer Networks to spend according to local needs and priorities.
Funding has been made available following the Health and Social Services' Review of Cancer Services in Wales and to support the strategic Designed to Tackle Cancer plan.
"We are delighted to learn of this funding for the Regional Cancer Networks which we are sure will significantly benefit the cancer patients in Wales," medical said director of the Velindre NHS Trust Dr Malcolm Adams.
A small element of the fund will also be used centrally by the Welsh Assembly to support cancer care staff training and developing the Cancer Information Network.
