Tests to stage

These tests find out the position of the cancer, how big it is and whether it has spread.

You will also have a dental examination to pick up and correct any issues with your teeth, such as fillings that need doing, or loose teeth. These can cause a problem when you start cancer treatment. You will see a restorative dentistry consultant who may need to remove any problem teeth to prevent you developing any complications during treatment.

Testing your lymph nodes

To find out if there are cancer cells in your lymph nodes you might have a fine needle aspiration or a needle biopsy.
