FAQs
Answers to your questions
Here you'll find answers to frequently asked questions about Run 10k.
You can ask friends and family to sponsor you online. If you have used a paper sponsorship form, you need to collect your money after your event and send it by cheque, made payable to "Cancer Research UK", to:
Run 10k

There is no minimum amount that we ask participants to raise, but every pound you raise in sponsorship really does make a difference. As a charity we receive virtually no government support and we rely overwhelmingly on the success of fundraising events such as Run 10k to help us continue our life-saving work.
Take a look at our fundraising ideas to help you get started and to smash your fundraising target.
Every penny of sponsorship money you raise goes directly to Cancer Research UK, the world's leading independent organisation dedicated to cancer research. Find out how the money you raise helps or find out more about our life-saving work.
The entry fee covers all the unavoidable administrative and organisational costs that make sure every Run 10k event is safe and enjoyable.
By charging an entry fee, we ensure that every penny of your sponsorship money goes towards our life-saving work. We do everything we can to keep costs as low as possible and any money that is left over from the entry fees, after costs, goes directly to support our work.
Gift Aid is a scheme that allows us to claim at least 25p extra from the government for every pound you raise for Cancer Research UK.
Encourage your sponsors to tick the Gift Aid box when making a donation. It won't cost you or your sponsors anything extra and means we can get more money. £100 becomes at least £125, so it really makes a huge difference.
If you collect your sponsorship with a paper form, please remember to send your sponsorship form that includes your sponsors' full names and home addresses including postcode with the sponsorship money so that we are able to claim Gift Aid.
Gift Aid is for UK taxpayers only.
The £19.50 entry fee is non-transferable and non-refundable.
Yes please. If any of your sponsors have ticked the Gift Aid box it is essential we have a copy of your paper sponsorship form, otherwise we will not be able to claim the tax back from the government.
When you return your sponsorship form, please also include the "Sponsorship return form" which comes in your entry pack as this includes your reference number and makes it easier for us to process.
Some of our most successful events have happened in the rain and Run 10k events will only be cancelled if there are severe weather conditions. Make sure you are suitably dressed for your event and remember that most venues do not have changing rooms or left luggage facilities.
There is no entry on the day. We recommend that you enter as soon as possible before the event, so that you can guarantee your place and start your fundraising. If you enter less than 14 days before the event we will try our best to get your entry pack and Run 10k T-shirt to you in time, however we cannot guarantee that you will receive it before the run.
Each course is different and some are more challenging than others. Take a look at the event page to find out more about the individual courses and terrains.
Each venue page details whether the houses will be open to runners and/or the general public on the day.
Due to feedback from participants, entry figures and associated event costs we have made some changes to the Run 10k venues. We have introduced a variety of venues that are more accessible in popular locations to ensure that we can accommodate as many people as possible who would like to participate.
As a result of these changes, unfortunately we no longer have Run 10k events in Northern Ireland. However we have more events overall this year so there should be a convenient event near you.
At present we do not offer the facility to enter as a team and each participant needs to enter as an individual. However, people can run together on the day of the event and many do. You can enter yourself and other people who may want to take part with our simple online entry form.
We advise participants to run or jog because of the length of time it would take to walk the course. If you would prefer to take part in a walking event for Cancer Research UK, take a look at our other fundraising events you can get involved in.
Toilets will be provided at each of the venues along with parking, first aid facilities and a water station on the course. Refreshments will also be available in the start/finish area at a cost. Unfortunately we are unable to provide showers, changing facilities or left luggage areas.
Visit the venue page of your event to find out more about the facilities available at your event.
Unfortunately, due to health and safety and legal reasons, we cannot accept entries from under 16s. Under 16s who would like to fundraise for Cancer Research UK can find out about other Cancer Research UK events in your area.
Please be aware that for safety reasons and venue restrictions no dogs are allowed at the events.
Cancer Research UK does not provide official timings for the runs, but there will be a clock on the start and finish line for you to note your own time.
You will receive the following items:
- Running number
- Back sign
- On the day event information
- Sponsor form
- Run 10k T-shirt
We will send you a Donation Station bag to allow you to bring along a filled bag of those items you no longer want which can then be sold in our charity shops to help fund our life-saving work. Donation Stations will be at selected venues of the Run 10k series only.
In exceptional circumstances we can arrange for you to change your venue; however we do not encourage it because of the associated administration costs. If you do need to change your venue please call 0871 641 2401, between 9.00am – 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.
If you haven't received your entry pack and Run 10k T-shirt within 14 days of entering please call 0871 641 2401, between 9.00am – 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.
Unfortunately not. For health and safety reasons we need to ensure that the event organiser has all the details of the runners on the day in case of a medical incident.
Volunteers are vital to Cancer Research UK. Without people offering their time and support we simply couldn't organise the events and raise the money we do. If you, or anyone you know, can help at a Run 10k event, please find out more about volunteering with us.
It is more cost effective for us when you enter online compared to entry by phone or letter, which means more money can be spent on our life-saving work.
This website is on a secure server. All the transactional areas of the website including entering events, paying in sponsorship and donating use industry standard 1024 bit SSL encryption.
